Autumn 2007
As I write this letter I’m in the last minute throes of planning for my country square dance. It has been a few years since I last hosted this event at Weatherstone. This summer at my dear friend Nina’s wedding the topic of my barn dance came up. My schedule has been so hectic I was reluctant to take on such a large party, but everyone discussing the party offered to help and with a little arm twisting the party was on.
This will be a super casual affair; jeans and boots (that slide) are a must. The menu is very simple, featuring a buffet of “pigs in a blanket” made with Spanish chorizo, poppers from BJ’s (jalapeno peppers with cheddar cheese filling) and tamales with miniature Tabasco bottles for each guest. The appetizers will be followed by chili and all the fixin’s.
I typically do not serve a “signature” cocktail at my parties, but I found this wonderful recipe that includes Calvados. (see CR Style- As Seen In for the recipe). As my entire theme is based on apples I thought this cider-based drink would be perfect.
Autumn Life shares the beauty of the season at Weatherstone and Westbury. I tried to capture the beauty of Connecticut and Colorado through the lens of my camera and share it with you. I hope you find the season as inspiring as I do.
To bring autumn indoors I have created three tables that reflect the season across the country. I’m delighted to share these three great autumn tables with you in this issue. Many of the items featured are available in the Louis XVI, Tapestry and Luxe collections which are back by popular demand with many new products.
If you are in need of a new easy opening dish for your holiday dinner see the Weatherstone Winter Squash Soup recipe. What is perfect about this dish is it is better made a day or two in advance. My tip to every hostess is shop early, especially if you are a working right up to the holiday. I treasure recipes like this one which can be made ahead of time. For the perfect ending to your dinner try a Pumpkin soufflé . A soufflé is a bit lighter, and served warm with maple syrup is a wonderful alternative to the classic pumpkin pie.
In the new issue of CR Style Weddings read about the perfect Blue and White wedding. I had such fun creating this look for a friend’s daughter’s wedding. These are just a few of the images that will be featured in my new book dedicated to the classic combination of blue and white.
Enjoy your Thanksgiving Holiday and cherish these last days of autumn. Happy Thanksgiving!
