While admittedly my very favorite flowers bloom in late spring and early summer I can honestly say I love just about every flower. As I have said repeatedly there are no “bad flowers” only people who do them badly! So while I might faint over a tree peony or a garden rose I still love those big old mums ( that in my day we wore as corsages to the homecoming games) and adore dahlias and coxcomb. The wonderful textures from seed pods, rose hips, and the numerous autumn berries and fruits help create subtle texturing in bouquets and decorations. A stroll down a country road ( or a quick trip to the flower market) can yield enough interesting foliage, pods and berries to create a wonderful bouquet with out a single flower. But mixed together one can create wonderful decoration for parties and the autumn holidays.

Rose hips, viburnum berries, grasses, bittersweet, crabapples, hypericum…. Are wonderful textural elements.
