I have always identified with the famous quote, “God is in the details,” from architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. So taking into account every component of a gift is as natural to me as the act of giving itself. Like great architecture, a truly wonderful present is carefully constructed with an equal emphasis on the inside and outside. 

One of my favorite ways to produce gorgeous, over-the-top gifts–whether I’m giving a simple collection of French guest soaps or a rare first edition Jane Austen–is to coordinate the gift with the wrapping. Switching metaphors, here, think of the matching wrap as foreshadow to the story’s climax, the gift inside.
