Wearing a white wedding dress dates back to Queen Victoria who set precedence by choosing a white gown for her union to Prince Albert. Before she broke the mold, white was not considered suitable for a royal wedding and only later became associated with virginity.
Until the mid-twentieth century, most American brides chose a formal dress, of color, for the wedding and planned to wear it on future special occasions. It was not until post-World War I that a white gown became de rigueur and the practical aspect of wearing it again was forgotten.
Nowadays, using white to decorate the wedding ceremony and reception is perhaps the most formal route one can choose. It is a beautiful, classic choice that has the added benefit of being appropriate in every season.
I love the idea of collecting silver pieces for the wedding and using them for a lifetime. What a lovely thought to pull out, on your twenty-fifth anniversary, the same silver used on you wedding day. The patina of time and the addition of memories will make it all the more gorgeous to behold.

When decorating with white on white, it is not essential that each piece is exactly the same tone of white. A little variation, as long as it doesn't clash or end up looking beige, adds to the overall interest. Silver is a neutral accent that gives your setting zing.
