In 2001, just after the nightmare of September 11th, my very dear and talented friend Cece Cord launched a beautiful collection of dog accessories and clothes inspired by her miniature Yorkshire terrier Tiger. When I asked her what prompted her to do this, she said (in her charming southern drawl) that she could not imagine going anyplace in the world without her beloved friend and that of course Tiger needed the proper clothes, accessories and carrying cases to go to Vail, Texas, Palm Beach and Europe! The rest is history, and Travels with Tiger was born. Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, and Saks Fifth Avenue were her first accounts and the reason these high-end giants immediately supported the collection was because Cece was the first designer to create luxury products for dogs in a way that only a sophisticated designer who truly loved her puppy could do.

I cannot forget the first time I saw the collection (I was launching At Home with Carolyne Roehm at Bergdorf’s as well). Tiger’s clothes and accessories were the most charming, whimsical things I had ever seen. Whether a dog owner or not, one could not help but admire the beauty of Tiger’s Bavarian collection, or smile with delight at the clothes Tiger would be sporting in Palm Beach that season.

Tiger and Cece were the ultimate pros; they did personal appearances though out the country. In fact, (although Cece might object to this assessment) Tiger became the bigger celebrity. Saks windows were created around her, she has graced the cover of Town and Country, and she has a press book that many would envy! Both mistress and pup worked endless hours to promote the collection. During a personal appearance tragedy struck and the little star fell off a platform and appeared to be paralyzed. Veterinarians feared that Tiger would never walk again, if in fact she lived. Cece refused to accept this diagnosis; with endless care, love and great faith she proved everyone wrong and Tiger rides again.
